Here at Empire, we are always looking for career-oriented self-starters, preferably with some Lumber and Building Materials trading experience. We buy and sell lumber and building materials to dealers and manufacturers throughout the United States and Canada. Our Traders work with lumber buyers of all types: retail lumber yards, distribution yards, manufacturing facilities, and industrial users of lumber. We trade lumber and panel products, from the east and west coast of the United States and Canada along with some southern species.
The basic function of the Trader is to analyze the market to determine the right time to buy a specific species of wood (i.e. eastern spruce, southern yellow pine) and to sell all of Empire's product lines. Other functions include, but are not limited to, developing market positions and market opportunities; providing customer service; reviewing and developing new products, customers, and market niches; coordinating re-manufacturing at mills and reload facilities; inventory control; coordinating distribution; and preparation of purchase orders and acknowledgements.
While trading lumber is a very demanding career it also is very rewarding. You will learn to be your own boss, and will be paid commensurately. You will start out on a salary plus commission system and progress to straight commission.
